Small Gully Mr. Black’s Little Book Shiraz 2008 – 90+ pts Wine Advocate

That’s right, 2008 is the new vintage! As always, I find the most compelling aspect of Stephen's wines to be the age... while most wineries are delivering us 2011, this puppy has three+ years of age on it! That has allowed for the intense fruit to soften and secondary notes to develop.Instead of simply a fistful of blackberry fruit, we've got a potpourri of flavors, including subtle nuances of spice, flowers, and wild herbs. Yet, despite its modest price tag and easy accessibility, this wine will age wonderfully for 4-6 years!
Red meat is a natural pairing - steak, burgers, etc. But the wonderful acidity and balance of this wine lend themselves to mid-weight fare like ribs and grilled chicken. I know what I'm drinking Wednesday!
“Deep garnet colored, the 2008 Mr Black’s Little Book Shiraz gives pronounced notes of nuts, warm chocolate, star anise and blackberry preserves, with nuances of date pudding, figs, black olives and sandalwood. Full-bodied, ripe and rich in the mouth, with crisp acidity to balance and a medium to firm level of grainy tannins to contribute texture, it has a long, dried fruit and savory finish. Drink it now to 2016+.”
