I’ve had my eye on this beauty ever since I tasted it a couple of weeks ago. I went to order some in for the shelf yesterday and my rep said they were closing it out to make room for the new vintage. “I’ll take it all!” I replied.
Howard Park has been owned by the Burch family since 1986 and has quickly become one of the benchmark producers of Western Australia. Chief winemaker Janice McDonald (formerly of the iconic Vasse Felix Estate) crafts gorgeous age-worthy wines from the family’s cool climate sites in Australia’s “Cote D’Or”, the Margaret River. This stunning Chardonnay comes from the Miamup sub-region, and with a drinking window of 2021-2027 its just beginning to shine.
This is a true closeout. I have less than 10 cases available.

“A critical selection is applied to our Margaret River vineyards for growing Miamup Chardonnay. Each location adds to the complexity of the wine due to the soils, aspects, clones and microclimates unique to the respective sites. Applied to this rich collection of choice, is the skill and enthusiasm of our winemaking team that draws upon traditional winemaking methods and the use of fine grain French oak to craft a layered, flavoursome and complex wine.” – Winery note
"From a cooler, southern subregion of Margaret River (Miamup), this vintage of Howard Park's Chard is punchy and pretty, offering heady aromas of kumquats and nectarines, with saline, mineral notes and gentle but ever-present toasty, vanillin oak notes. The easygoing palate is slippery and saline, with lovely fruit intensity and crystalline acidity. Again the oak shows but doesn't overwhelm. This has hit its stride now, and offers an affordable intro to the famed Chardonnays of Australia's west." – Wine Enthusiast
"Vivid straw. High-pitched, mineral-accented orange and pear nectar aromas, along with floral, vanilla and buttered toast nuances. Chewy and expansive on the palate, offering sappy orchard and citrus fruit flavors that pick up quinine and ginger notes with air. Shows repeating smokiness on the finish, which lingers with very good, floral-driven persistence. Drink 2021-2027." – Vinous
