Over the past few years, what was Belle Glos Meiomi Pinot Noir became our top-selling Pinot Noir. Made by Joe Wagner, scion of the Wagner family of Caymus Vineyards fame, Meiomi offered big, rich, bold flavors and an attractive price tag.
So attractive that industry mega-player Constellation bought the Meiomi brand from Joe for $315 million! Whoa!
Instantly, Meiomi production more than tripled to over 750,000 cases! Ya think quality stayed the same? Uh, no. Unfortunately not. Now, we've managed to find some other wines, notably Higher Ground, that offer a similar profile to the Meiomi of old, and at a nice price.
But why settle for a knock-off if I can sell you Pinot made by Joe Wagner himself?
Yep. I know, doesn't make sense... he has to have a non-compete clause. But somehow he has found a way around it and introduced Böen... and here ya go...

Yeah, not only did he go out and offer a killer Pinot, he managed to source one from Russian River! The Russian River Valley is recognized as one of the world’s most ideal regions for growing Pinot Noir. Just a few miles from the Pacific ocean, the Russian River Valley benefits from natural air conditioning in the form of cool and often foggy air that arrives in the evening, then retreats the following morning. The result is a longer growing season which allows Pinot Noir to develop full flavors while retaining its natural acidity.
Stylistically, this is classic Joe Wagner - rich, lush, dense and dark, with loads of black and blue fruit along with vanilla and spice from the oak aging. This "Party Pinot", folks! Great on its own, or with a wide variety of foods from cheese to pizza to pork to tuna... and on and on!
"A rich, plush style, dark in color, with dark berry flavors and touches of licorice, jazzy oak, vanilla, cedar and dill. Ends with a long finish. Drink now." WS
