“Delivers power with class at a modest price.” – Marina Gayan, Master of Wine (the first from Argentina)
You have to love South America for wines like this! A 95 point rated Cabernet blend from old vines for under $25, the kind of wine that would cost at least double the price form California. I tried to buy 30 cases, but could only get 10. Cabernet fans don’t miss this one!

From the historic Vina San Pedro estate, established in 1865 in Chile’s Curico Valley. This Sideral Cabernet blend comes from their Cachapoal Andes Valley property. Located 110 kilometers south of Santiago, with high elevation vineyards planted at 1500-2000+ ft in the foothills of the steep Andes mountain range. Here their vines enjoy volcanic mineral rich soils, warm summer days, and huge diurnal temperature changes. This allows bunches to ripen slowly, thickening grape skins, building flavors, and improving acidity. All in all producing superb sets of fruit and strikingly powerful complex wines. A blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 6% Carmenere, aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (only 20% new to preserve the essence of the fruit). It’s packed with dark berries, notes of chocolate, cedar, cassis, and plum. Juicy and fresh on the tongue, more dark fruits weave around a core of fine grained tannins. With more air the flavors expand, more spice, minerals and juicy blackberry fruit leading into a long smooth finish that seems to last for minutes. Superb now, and I expect it’ll age gracefully for at least a decade. For $22 A stunning value and a superb wine.
“The 2019 Sideral is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 23% Syrah, 6% Carménère, 6% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc from Totihue, Cachapoal Andes, that spent 14 months in 20% used barrels. Violet in color. The attractive nose features raspberry and spice notes along with diaphanous mint and bay leaf aromas, as well as a whiff of fine oak. Intense in flavor with fine-grained tannins; the flow is compact while the finish is juicy and long-lasting and leaves a pleasant aftertaste.” – Vinous
“The soft and harmonious 2019 Sideral was produced with 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Syrah, 6% Carmenere, 6% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc with good ripeness and balance. It shows the Cachapoal bright aromas and a medium to full-bodied palate with a soft texture.” - WA
“A full-bodied red with aromas of black plum, tobacco, chocolate orange, cedar and walnut. Firm, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Polished and creamy. ” – JS Or reply. The wine will be available Wednesday in both stores. |
