To be honest, I did taste this under practically the ideal circumstances- right after finishing up a little gardening in the back walkway. Scratched and with a wicked sprain in my hand, but ultimately victorious over the rosebush, I thought a little sip of something to celebrate was in order. Fortunately, this was in the fridge awaiting my evaluation, and let me tell you- it was just what I was looking for.
Pure and quenching in just the best way, with tons of citrus and tropical fruit. I could have slugged down the entire bottle if it wasn’t 10 AM on a Tuesday. That perfect intensity of a good Sauvignon Blanc just really can’t be beat on a sunny day, especially while you’re surveying your handywork in the garden.
It’s a really impressive wine, especially at the price. 2020 was an absolute dream of a vintage in New Zealand. Warm dry days and cooler nights make for intense and aromatic wines, and this is no exception. There’s a precision here that I just can’t get over, accentuating the lemon-lime-yuzu core with a clean acidity that makes everything just sing!
I think that intensity makes it a little more interesting with food than other Sauvignon Blancs I’ve cracked into of late. We polished off the bottle with some blackened red drum sandwiches (recipe in the pic), but it really doesn’t need a thing. Theoretically, maybe a glass to pour it in- but with how delicious this is after a day in the dirt I’d suggest just putting a straw in the bottle!
“Mouthwatering in its intensity, with passion fruit, Key lime, lemon blossom, ruby grapefruit and lime zest. Offers hints of tangerine and fresh grated ginger that linger on the long, expressive and sleek finish."- WS
