My wife is pretty spoiled by the wines that I bring home. Since I only bring home the best stuff(and she never pays for it) she doesn’t really care about a good deal, she just want it to be delicious. She will even say sometimes “this is pretty good, but it doesn’t taste very expensive.” Well, this one snuck right by her snooty “value detector” of a nose. We polished off the bottle before we were done with dinner and she said, “can we get some more of that?” That’s a HUGE wine for my budget! Yes, we can drink this every night!!!
The RS stand for Roberto Stucchi vineyards and they use select vineyard plots to make this wine. Roberto is the current winemaker, but his family has been making Chianti Classico for over 160 years! The vineyard is all organically farmed and they employ many biodynamic principles. The high limestone content allows these plots of Sangiovese to be extremely rich and expressive without becoming jammy. They have learned a lot of traditional secrets over the years, but the new gravity fed winemaking certainly helps too! Roberto vinifies each lot separately and then uses each lot to make the best blend possible. In an amazing vintage like 2015 they were left with an absurdity of riches, making this the best “RS” Chianti Classico in years.
This is a silky smooth Sangiovese but it has more than enough power and acidity to pair with hearty fare. We had it with a casual calzone and it was fantastic! You will be safe matching it to any pasta, pizza or casual Italian meal. However, if you want to grill some marinated portabellas of prepare some veal scallopini this will taste amazing with it. You will want a second bottle, buy accordingly! Click on the pic for a scallopini recipe.
“The 2019 Chianti Classico RS Cultusboni is deep, fleshy and super-expressive. Tobacco, cedar and dried autumn leaves give the 2019 lovely aromatic presence. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2019 is beautifully layered and resonant from start to finish. It is another impressive wine in this range from Badia a Coltibuono. The 2019 is positively stellar and one of the best wines I have tasted here in some time.” Vinous Or reply. The wine is available now in Chapel Hill. Friday, as ordered, in Hillsborough.
