Black Slate - Escaladei 2021
Price: $29.99
A classic blend of Garnacha and Cariñena aged in a combination of concrete, old foudres and barriques. It has the red fruit from the colder village of Scala Dei plus the advantage of a cool vintage, so the wine comes through as very fresh with some spiciness, nothing heavy or oaky about it. The tannins are silky, and the texture is very elegant. It feels young and supple, but with ample structure and acidity. This will be welcome addition at the dinner table!
Black Slate Description
Intense cherry color. Powerful black fruit aroma and rather fresh complex and without dominance of wood, with notes of plums and tobacco, fine notes of reduction of Mediterranean herbs and spices. Gluttonous and intense, very good acidity in the mouth, lots of tannin ripe, mineral expression in the long finish of the mouth. Very fine and elegant. It is recommended to decant it. For keep for another 10 years.
Wine Advocate: 92+ Points
”The village red 2021 Black Slate Escaladei was produced with Garnacha and 3% Syrah from vines planted in 1978 and 2001 in the village of Scaladei. Fifty percent of the Garnacha fermented with full clusters with a soft vinification. The wine matured in 3,000- and 5,000-liter Stockinger oak foudres. It has a bright ruby color, very Garnacha, with an herbal and slightly reduced personality but with floral tones and a pretty nose. It has a medium-bodied palate with very fine tannins and a long dry, tasty finish. Pretty elegant. It has 13.94% alcohol, a pH of 3.27 and six grams of acidity.”
