The Momtazi Vineyard is one of Oregon’s p remier locations, nestled in McMinnville at the entrance to the famed Van Duzer corridor. Here, the cooling Pacific breezes flow through the vineyards resulting in higher acidity and fine tannins. In the past 12 years, there have been over eighty 90-95 pt rated Pinot Noirs produced from this vineyard, fetching upwards of $90 per bottle.
Maysara Winery was founded by the Momtazi family to showcase their fruit, but also to involve the next generation. Tahmiene Momtazi has been the winemaker since 2007, garnering her own slew of 90-95 pt rated wines.
What does that have to do with this wine?
Brave Cellars is a side project of Tahmiene Momtazi along with her husband, Colin Smith. The wines are made using Momtazi fruit, but without the markup other wineries pay! Their goal is to showcase the more elegant, approachable side of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Black cherry fruit, raspberry and just a hint of the earthier side of Pinot. Super smooth finish… hmmm….
$60-90 fruit… in a $20 package… sign me up!
