Catalpa is the quintessential Cabernet for all fans of the grape, and it is the year round wine you’re looking for. Meaning you can have it with standing rib-roast in the winter, leg of lamb in the spring, and grilled ribeye in the summer. Don’t worry if you steer clear of meat, it’s amazing with blue cheeses and Portobello mushrooms too! A rocking Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 10 years.
The pristine, high altitude vineyards at Bodegas Atamisque sit below the peak of Tupangato. These 65+ year old vines grow in well-draining alluvial soils situated at over 4,400ft. While digging deep into the soils for water they pick up a beautiful depth and intensity not found in younger vines. The aging of the wine is split between stainless steel vats and new French oak Barrels. They use only the finest old growth wood barrels produced by the most prestigious coopers. The oak aged portion enhances the complexity while the stainless steel portion provides silky-textured freshness and vibrancy to this luscious Cabernet. The state of the art winery is the most beautiful that I have ever seen. All of the wine production is made in their stone, gravity fed winery where no expense is spared, and no detail is overlooked. It is no surprise that this wine has scored as high as 93-95 points from Vinous & Decanter! Deep purple red color. Intense aromas of cherries, black currants, with subtle notes of black pepper and chocolate. In the mouth, it is round, smooth, full bodied and well-structured. Vibrant acidity and with firm silky mature tannins and lingering flavors of red fruits and cacao in the finish. You will not be able to put down your glass!
