Frappato is a little bit of a secret in the wine world. A relatively unknown Sicilian varietal, it’s beloved by sommeliers and wine geeks as one of the coolest and most exciting varietals on the market!
From the sun-drenched Southwest of Sicily, the Centonze Frappato is a great introduction to the genre. Fruit driven and full of bright acidity, the only real way to describe it is fun. It leaps out of the bottle, offering enough complexity in the nose while not demanding an excel spreadsheet to keep track of every single tertiary note. Put a little bit of a chill on it and it shines all the more- a refreshing red perfect for evenings in the Spring.
It’s also an incredibly versatile wine for food pairing. Think pizza or fresh pasta to start, but you can put this with anything from grilled fish and veggies to a charred flank steak over a bed of arugula. There’s a reason we (and the Greater Wine World) love it so much.
