Mostly Merlot, this fella is rounded out by the twins of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, as will as a skosh of Malbec to really amp up that plump purple fruit character. It’s disarmingly casual despite its pedigree, with tons of fruit straight out of the get go. And yes, while Merlot is the star of the show its performance is really buoyed by Cab Franc, which adds a lovely peppery and spicy character that accentuates the red and purple fruit core. The use of large oak barrels provides structure, while only imparting just a hint of that cigar box character, and the wafting floral finish insists on going back for another sip.
What really makes me love this wine is that Pierre uses a lot of amazing technique to make a wine that is astoundingly, uproariously gorgeous in its simplicity. Balancing both a beautiful linearity and deep, nuanced flavors is a colossal task that this wine easily overcomes with the best of them, and just between us, its what really set it apart from the rest of the pack.
Château Marjosse Description
94 points The Wine Independent
“red plums, blackberry preserves, and mulberries, plus a hint of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is tightly knit with fine-grained tannins and bold freshness supporting the nuanced black and red fruits, finishing long and minerally.”
