Hailing from the Molise region, located on the Adriatic coast between Puglia and Abruzzo, Di Majo’s expression of Sangiovese is different to those you find from Tuscany. Di Majo’s Sangiovese comes from their organically farmed Ramitello and Maratosa vineyards on the Marquis Norante estate in the Santa Cristina subregion of Molise. Here the warm sunny climate, temperate ocean breezes, and south facing slopes here produce ripe juicy berries that’re full of flavour. This Sangiovese is polished pure and velvety, less of the earth tones you find from Tuscany, more of the fruit! Harvested in late October, then fermented in stainless steel to preserve the freshness. Aged just six months in large mostly used French oak (tonneaux) barrels, introducing a little oxygen and rounding off the edges before bottling. The resulting wine is a rip the cork ready to roll table ready red! Pour a glass and you’re greeted with aromas of red berries and violets, with subtle hints of anise and spice adding a little intrigue. Smooth and supple on the tongue, with soft round tannins, juicy red fruits and just enough acidity to keep it fresh. The winery suggests pairing with antipasti, Bolognese, ripe cheese and charcuterie (lookout for local favourites like capocollo, soppressata, and ventricina).
Wine Spectator: 91 Points
"Aromas of black cherries, orange peel and some fresh herbs. Medium body, medium round tannins, and a soft and creamy finish. Light jammy character at the end. Drink or hold."
Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points
"Indulgent notes of tanned leather, coffee grounds, vanilla bean and dried fig on the nose lead the way to a berry-rich palate that gains depth and structure from close-grained tannins and a prick of acidity."
