“Jean-Étienne Chermette is making beautiful wines as he takes over the reins of the estate from his father, Pierre-Marie. To my palate, he is clearly one of the most talented young vignerons in all of France today. His 2021 Brouilly “les Pierreux” is excellent, coming in at an even thirteen percent alcohol this year and delivering a deep and complex bouquet of red and black cherries, pomegranate, gamebird, violets, peonies, a lovely base of soil, French roast and a topnote of bonfire. On the palate thewine is full-bodied, deep, pure and sappy at the core, with beautiful focus and complex, lovely soil inflection, a touch of tannin and a very long, refined and impeccably balanced finish. This is stellar Brouilly!”
