"Our answer to the constant Chardonnay questions – no, Chardonnay does not have to be buttery, or oaky or heavy. Here in the cool Sta Rita Hills, the Chardonnay has great yellow and tropical fruits but with fabulous acidity and intrigue from the mineral impression as well as energy, lift and cut. We are very pleased with this wine, right out of the gate, it has been balanced and seamless and delicious. 85% Rita’s Crown and 15% Duvarita, fermented and aged for 15 months on its lees, in mostly second fill French Oak barrels. Due to low yields this wine is extremely limited. Only 140 cases made. " winery note

“Coming mostly from the Rita’s Crown Vineyard, the appellation 2021 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills reveals a medium gold hue as well as a ripe, mineral-drenched bouquet of buttered stone fruits, caramelized pineapple, toasted bread, and hints of hazelnuts. Rich, medium-bodied, and nicely concentrated, with outstanding length, this beauty will easily stand up to the single vineyards and is a gem of a Chardonnay. Unquestionably, some of the finest wines coming out of the Central Coast today emerge from Dragonette... If you get a chance, don’t miss these wines.”

"So much purity of chardonnay fruit with sliced apple and ripe lemon. Some steel and flint undertones. Medium body, round texture and a fresh bitter-lemon finish. Impressive clarity."

“The Sta Rita Hills Chardonnay is a fabulous appellation-level wine. Most of the fruit is from Rita’s Crown, which makes it a very serious wine at this level. For that reason, I would cellar it for at least 2-3 years. Lemon confit, sage, mint, crushed rocks and chamomile give it a distinct savory quality that matches its phenolic, structured feel.” - Antonio Galloni on 2020
