Glou glou Wine!!!
Glou glou???
Yeah… it’s French for “glug glug”, which is the sound you make when you gleefully slurp this down.
The wine is made in a similar fashion as Beaujolais… but with the Syrah grape, the result is wildly different and delicious!
Winemaker Peter-Allen Finlaysen experiments with whole bunch fermentation. The ripened stems add a little spice to the wine, but also help keep the grapes from crushing each other. This allows for some of the grapes to undergo carbonic maceration – a process where the fermentation starts inside the grape. Long, geeky story short, the resulting wine is just loaded with vibrant aromas and flavors - blackberries, violets, rhubarb and plum, along with cloves and anise. While the process may be a little geeky, the result is anything but. This is just juicy goodness meant to be glugged down over a shared plate of charcuterie.

“The 2022 Whole Bunch is 100% whole bunches (quelle surprise) aged in stainless steel for nine months. It has a crisp nose with blackcurrant, raspberry fruit, and a touch of pressed violet. The medium-bodied palate has brittle tannins and a lovely chalky texture with a hint of licorice emerging towards the finish. The whole bunch works well here - no steaminess. Excellent.” VM
