The 2019 vintage of Gonnet's Cairanne Le Brave was rated 92 pts in Wine Spectator. Not hyperbole, nor salesman-speak… Since the 1981 vintage, it was the only Southern Rhone red rated 92 pts or higher by the Wine Spectator with a retail under $20 in today’s dollars. (Meaning, adjusted for inflation.) Sure, there was a Gigondas back in 2000 that sold for $20. But that’s over $36 in today’s world.
And this wine? Guillaume made a selection just for us from the 2022 vintage. The early buzz on 2022 in general is another outstanding vintage for the region. Certainly more ripe, plump and juicy than 2021, there are some sneaky tannins here as well. Kind of like 2009, if you care.
80% Grenache, 20% Syrah. No oak at all. Fragrant aromas of raspberries and cherries mixed with wild herbs give way to an elegant and refined wine. Not that it is lacking in intensity – oh no! This baby offers a powerful array of ripe, briary fruit combined with garrigue – but the wine is impeccably balanced and caresses your palate on the long finish. In essence – a perfect Rhone red for matching with just about any dish you can throw at it!
Guillaume Gonnet Description
The winery comments: “This wine marries well with a large range of foods, pulled pork, Provencal beef stew, beef ribs with pepper, or a more casual occasion with a gourmet pizza. This wine is delicious with cheese”
