La Cartuja has redefined what value means in Priorat. In a region where 90 pt wines routinely average over $40 a bottle, this wine has outperformed wines that sell for $100 and above! How do they do it? It all starts with owner/importer Patrick Mata's commitment to producing a great wine at a great price. But that doesn’t mean he takes shortcuts… La Cartuja comes to us from a single estate-owned vineyard in the heart of Priorat. Viticulture is organic. 70% Garnacha, 30% Carignan. Aged six months in French oak.
This is simply an amazing value. Think Pinot Noir crossed with a Cotes du Rhone at a fraction of what you would pay for this level of quality! Sexy, seductive bright, juicy cherry and blackberry notes are supported by lavender and hints of anise and peppery spice on the long finish. I’d say this will drink well for 7 years or more, but who are we kidding? It’ll be gone from my house in less than a year!
