The Gibson Block is planted in the heart of the McDowell Valley AVA in Mendocino. This ancient dry farmed vineyard is planted with some of the oldest Syrah vines you’ll find anywhere in California. If Marietta sold this fruit they could probably get some serious coin for it, but instead they craft one of the best values in estate grown Syrah you’ll find anywhere in the US.
The Gibson Block Syrah climbs from the glass, ripe and robust with spiced black cherry and raspberry fruits galore. Enticing notes of smoked bacon, licorice, and black pepper add intrigue and depth to the nose. The beauty is rich and powerful on the tongue, with more ripe dark fruits enveloping a massive tannin structure that builds steadily into a long dry pepper spiced finish. As full-bodied and as full-flavoured as it gets, thoroughly decadent and delightful. You’ll think you’re drinking a $50+ Syrah, because you are, you just didn’t pay that much!
