When we think about Australian wine, Shiraz is first and foremost. And big Shiraz from the warm Barossa region. But Australia is a big country. Heck it’s a continent! And if you cross the entire thing, you will find yourself in the Margaret River region of Western Australia.
Jutting into the Indian Ocean, the peninsula juts 40 miles into the Indian Ocean, creating a cool, maritime-influenced climate with loads of similarities to Bordeaux. Unsurprisingly, it is Cabernet Sauvignon, not Shiraz, that flourishes here.
