What makes Silencieux different than other wineries’ “second” wines? This is not made from “young vines.” Rather, winemaker Kirk Venge sources fruit from mature vineyard blocks from his own and his friends’ vineyards throughout Napa Valley. He applies the same techniques and gives the same care to this baby as he does his other gems – the only difference being this wine is designed to be an “everyday” alternative to their collectible wines! Okay… they may be a little skewed on what constitutes “everyday,” but hey, whatever, this is some serious juice!
Some buzz words for you… Hand harvested and sorted. 100% gravity flow. Combination of small stainless steel, concrete tank fermenters, and open-top barriques for fermenting. 100% native, spontaneous yeast and malolactic fermentation. The juice was then separated into “free run” and “light press” fractions. Aged in 65% new French Oak barrels for 18 months. (Including the mythical Taransaud barrels!)
