The folks at Brady sure love their Petite Sirah… adding 12% to the blend here. Here, the PS adds tannic structure to the equation. Ripe fruit, of course… but where this baby differs from the pack is the acidity. At this level of ripeness and alcohol (15%), acidity is key for balance. The vineyards are located in the cool Santa Lucia Mountains, where the cooling Pacific Ocean breezes maintain a higher-than-average acidity level for Zin. The result is a beautifully balanced wine. As I have opined before, there is nothing wrong with 15% alcohol wines… so long as they are balanced.
Apparently, the winery has been reading my work!
Zinfandel is a quintessential American wine… can you guess what foods it works well with? Of course… Burgers, pizza, chili, tacos, steaks… but really it is the overall American palette of big, rich bold, often spicy, flavors that beg for a wine of similar appeal. A great chance to fall in love with Zinfandel all over again!
“Dense aromas of black currant, red flowers and charred meat are wrapped in a rocky edge on the nose of this bottling. There is great cohesion to the palate, where rich red fruits are cut by crushed stone flavors, lifted by savory spice and framed by ample acidity and tannins.” WE on 2018 96 pts
