Domaine des Bosquets - Cotes du Rhone Seguret 2021
Price: $39.99
Sale Price: $31.99
Julien Brechet may be the hottest winemaker in all of France. Since taking over winemaking in 2015 at his family’s Gigondas estate, he has tallied well over fifty 95-100 pt reviews from Wine Advocate Wine Spectator, Vinous, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Enthusiast, Decanter and I’m sure others I am missing.
In addition to the Gigondas Estate (the family also owns Ch Vaudieu in Chateauneuf du Pape and Famille Brechet in Lirac), Julien has been charged with managing their vineyard in Seguret. Just 4 miles north of Gigondas, Brechet’s Seguret vineyard has near-identical soil, exposition and microclimate. With 91-93 pt reviews already for 2020 and 2021 vintages, it is only a matter of time before this wine starts hitting the same lofty heights as its Gigondas brethren. In quality… and in price! Like $50-80!
Julien matures the Grenache in concrete to preserve its intense aromatics, a product of the mountainous elevation. The Syrah is aged in neutral oak barriques, to soften any rough edges. Blended together, this is a wine that is ready to roll now! A smidge of air and this explodes with a surge of blackberry and mulberry followed by hints of fresh herbs, black pepper and anise. The tannins are present, but refined, making this a delicious pairing at the dinner table!
Wine Spectator: 91 Points
Delivers a cascade of blackberry and boysenberry paste notes that cruise alongside fresh herbs, black pepper and licorice, all encased by fine-grained tannins. Reveals underpinnings of graphite and an appealing smoked meat accent that add to the complexity, with a tug of tar on the well-hewn, persistent finish. Drink now through 2027.
