So what do we have here? A wine driven by exceptional fruit from Vilmart’s premier cru parcels in Rilly-la-Montagne. This 2016 is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir from 55 year old vines. Aged in barrique for 10 months, and aged on the lees for 42 months. You can expect a rich, pure highly expressive wine that sings right now, and will age for another 10-15 years building complexity as it does. This is one of the most consistent vintage Champagnes out there too, with 93-94+ point scores from both Vinous and Wine Advocate for the past ten years!
“The robe, lemon yellow with a beautiful intensity, is animated by fine regular bubbles. These small pearls give rise to a beautiful white cord on the surface. The nose is very elegant, airy, floral, springy. In the mouth, we find notes of candied pineapple, cardamom, white pepper, these are the notes that reach us immediately. Then after a few moments, another salvo arrives, dried fruits first, then minerality. The expression is mature, complex and has a lot of personality. The wine continues to evolve in the glass with aromas of cinnamon and gingerbread. The imperceptible dosage and the frank acidity of the wine deliver a “sharp” acid / sugar balance of the extra brut type. The finish is very long, ten to twelve seconds. Very clear, it perfectly prolongs the impressions given in the mouth with a nice conclusion on candied lemon and orange zest. Secondly, after opening for a few minutes, we perceive aromas of pralines as well as peach and apricot.” – winery note.
“Disgorged in June 2019 with seven grams per liter dosage, the 2015 Brut Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or reveals inviting aromas of golden orchard fruit, pear, freshly baked bread and citrus zest. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with racy acids, chalky extract and a long, penetrating finish, the vintage has imparted additional generosity, but the house's chiseled, serious style remains very much intact.” – William Kelley, Wine Advocate

"The 2017 Champagne Grand Cellier d'Or Brut is also 70% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot Noir. The nose is a bit more rounded, with notes of pastry, almond, and ripe peach. The palate is ripe upfront and through the mid-palate, with juicy lime candy, pear, and melon. It has a light confected feel and is open and approachable. Drink 2023-2033."

"The 2017 Brut Grand Cellier d' Or is a rich, exuberant wine. In 2017, the Brut Grand Cellier d' Or has an exotic, tropical quality that is a bit unusual, but also incredibly appealing. Hints of mango, passionfruit, citrus confit and white flowers all build nicely in the glass. Medium in body and yet quite resonant, the 2017 is an absolute delight. The 2017 looks to be more of an early-drinking vintage, but I doubt that will be a problem for Vilmart fans. The blend is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. Disgorged: July, 2021." - Antonio Galloni
