The wines of Fronsac were once in demand in the French court, but that was in the 18th Century. With the arrival of Phylloxera and the devastation of France's vineyards, Fronsac went into decline. Subsequently Fronsac saw hard times, as the appellation hides in the shadows of the limelight which focuses on the grand estates of the Médoc, Graves, Pomerol and St Emilion. Fortunately, outside investors have helped a number of properties, and Chateau La Vieille Cure has become the shining star!
With its twenty hectares in one single plot, Château La Vieille Cure appeared on a famous map of the Guyenne region, known as the Belleyme map, dated 1780. The vines grow on a plateau and slopes that are lucky enough to be turned to the south west. The estate runs along the River Isle at a height of 65 meters and not only drinks up the afternoon sun, but also enjoys good drainage. This situation makes the grapes that grow here generously ripe and in perfect condition.

"Always a winner, I can't remember the last vintage of this cuvée that didn't put a smile on my face. The 2020 Chateau La Vieille Cure has lots of up-front cassis and black cherry fruits to go with complex floral, lead pencil, and green tobacco-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, and elegant, it has the vintage's concentrated, pure style front and center. Best After 2023."

"New owners for a few years now at La Vieille Cure, and it continues to be one of the go-to names in the appellation. This is a little closed down right now, the oaking a little evident, but the big berry fruits charm their way in after a few moments, as do charred cedar notes and grippy tannins. Enjoyable and confident and overall one of the Fronsacs that is tasting great."

"Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 La Vieille Cure storms out of the glass with powerful notions of plum preserves, blueberry pie and baker's chocolate, followed by suggestions of star anise, ground cloves and eucalyptus. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed by rich, ripe black and blue fruits, backed up by firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and opulent. Barrel Sample "
